Antique Details
When working with clients, I always take inventory of their existing pieces and anything they want included in the new design. I often come across antiques and family heirloom pieces that hold sentimental value, but that clients aren’t quite sure how to make feel current. Incorporating antiques into a new space, whether it is family pieces or new-to-you pieces, is one of my favorite ways to add character, history and depth.
In the 1950’s my grandparents purchased two side tables from a local furniture store in my hometown of Union City, TN. They had just finished building their first home together and these tables were some of the first pieces they brought into their new home. The tables have made their way through my family tree and are now flanking my bright white living room couch. The tables help to ground the modern lamps and contemporary décor in my living room, while adding an element of interest and a sweet reminder of my grandparents.
However, antiques are not limited to your grandma’s hand-me-downs. In addition to the pieces I’ve received from my family, I have found some of very favorite antiques at antique malls, furniture stores and estate sales—keep an open mind and you’ll be shocked at how many amazing pieces you will find and can incorporate into your home!
